The Mithila Cultural Society UK is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees who ensure the organization’s activities align with its charitable purposes and serve the public benefit. Our trustees provide strategic direction, oversee governance, and uphold transparency in all operations.
Dr. Kaladhar Narayan Jha, a retired consultant orthopaedic surgeon, brings over four decades of medical and leadership experience. Born in Vishnupur, Darbhanga, Bihar, he studied at Neterhat Vidyalaya, Patna Medical College, and AIIMS New Delhi before serving in Bihar State Health Services. Migrating to the UK in 1995, Dr. Jha worked in the NHS until his retirement in 2020.
A Founding Member and Trustee of the Mithila Cultural Society UK, Dr. Jha is deeply committed to promoting Mithila’s art, language, and heritage. His expertise in governance and community service makes him a vital asset to the Society's mission.
Rajendra Chaudhary, a doctor and barrister, hails from the village Chanpura in Madhubani, Bihar. A Founding Member of the Mithila Cultural Society UK, Rajendra has the distinction of being the original creator of its constitution. He is a proud Maithil and is deeply passionate about preserving and promoting Mithila’s rich cultural heritage.
With a career that began as a General and Urological Surgeon in the NHS and culminated in becoming a distinguished medico-legal expert, Rajendra brings exceptional leadership, legal acumen, and advocacy skills to the Society. His unwavering commitment to social justice and community welfare makes him an invaluable asset to the MCS UK.
Dr. Arun Jha, originally from Persouni (Tisi Persouni) in Bisfi Block, is a retired General Practitioner with an extensive career in healthcare. Educated in Munger at Zilla School and RD & DJ College, he pursued his MBBS from 1967 to 1974 and served as a Civil Assistant Surgeon with Bihar Health Services before moving to the UK in 1980.
In the UK, Dr. Jha worked in child health before becoming a Principal General Practitioner in 1989, a role he held until retiring in 2019.
As a Trustee of MCS UK, Dr. Jha brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to promoting Mithila’s culture and supporting charitable initiatives, playing a key role in strengthening the organization’s mission.
President
Dr. Reeta Jha, a trailblazing retired NHS Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, is a dedicated advocate for women’s health, empowerment, and cultural preservation. Originally from Sultanganj, Bhagalpur, and born in Ranchi, she pursued her education at Ursuline Convent and Women’s College, Ranchi, earning her MBBS from Rajendra Medical College in 1980.
Since moving to the UK in 1988, Dr. Jha has built a distinguished medical career while volunteering extensively in Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, and Burma, training healthcare providers in obstetrics and gynecology to improve maternal health in resource-poor settings.
As a founding member and President of MCS UK, she combines her trailblazing spirit with strong leadership, promoting Mithila’s cultural heritage and spearheading philanthropic initiatives to uplift underprivileged women and children in Mithila. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to service and meaningful change across communities.
Secretary
Arya Thakur, originally from Munger and the village of Manikpur, is an alumna of Emarti Devi Girls High School and S.B. Women’s College, Cuttack. Since migrating to the UK in 2005, she has worked as a teacher while actively supporting the Mithila community.
As Secretary of MCS UK, Arya combines her networking skills with a passion for promoting Mithila cuisine, art, and music. She has been a key contributor to the charity’s cultural and charitable initiatives and is known for supporting new immigrants in building a strong support network in the UK. Her dedication makes her an invaluable part of MCS UK.
Vice President
Dr. Poonam Jha is an accomplished medical professional with over three decades of experience in medical practice and social engagement. She is a practising General Practitioner with the NHS and a distinguished member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. A proud alumna of Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi, Dr. Jha hails from Mithilanchal and has consistently demonstrated a profound commitment to community welfare.
As one of the founding members of the Mithila Cultural Society UK, Dr. Jha has played a pivotal role in fostering the organisation’s growth and impact. Currently serving as the Vice President of the Society, she continues to lead initiatives aimed at promoting cultural heritage while prioritising the upliftment of underprivileged communities. Her dedication to social welfare is evident through her tireless efforts to improve the quality of life for those in need, seamlessly combining her professional expertise with her passion for making a difference.
